Hello everybody, today I learned how to make music using colour. I made this music with yellow and the colour yellow sounds and feel like happy music synesthesia. I made this music using Play a Kandinsky, you can make music in it. I enjoyed doing this because I like music and this task was a little bit confusing in the beginning but then I started to understand how to make music in it.
Reading – Point Of View
Helloo everybody, this week we picked a story that we had to identify if it was first person or third person. First person is when the story uses the words I, me, my, our, us, we. Third person uses the words she, her, he, him, they, them. The story I read was dive, I think it is first person because it uses the words I, my, me. Eg: I stood on the bank, lost in a daze. I found this story quite sad because in the story the parents were separated.
Rugby
Helloo everybody, this week was our last week playing rugby. Rugby was fun because I got to learn the basics on how to play and it is good exercise. The instructors told us that we were going to play capture the flag. Basically, you have two teams and you have to try get the rugby balls from the opponent’s side and return back safely. When you get on the opponent’s side you will be vulnerable and they can tag you. To win, all the rugby balls on the opponent’s side are on your side.
Basketball
Helloo everybody, on Monday me and my class had basketball. We started by picking a partner and played a game as a warm up. We split into two groups and lined up. The first game we played, there was cones on the ground where you have to stand and try shooting the ball into the hoop. When it was my turn the ball went into the hoop first try! After that I stopped getting the ball in but then on the last cone that was left I got the ball in and my team won.
Carmen San Diego
Helloo everybody, we have been learning about different cultures to see what we knew. We played Carmen San Diego, our teacher found three cases for us to investigate. My favourite one was the jewels because it was the only one I did. The game features google earth which is cool because you get to explore around the world while doing missions.
Year 8 MAGS trip
Helloo everybody, this week on Tuesday the year 8’s at Wesley Intermediate School went to MAGS. When we arrived, we were given a powhiri and we had a quick break. We had a biscuit and some juice. After our break we split into two groups. The group that I was with started with maori games, then moved to the dance room and did some dancing and then did some science. It was time to go back to Wesley Intermediate so we went on the bus and came back. It was fun because I got to experience what it is like at mags.
Maths – Long Division
Hello everybody, this week at school we have been learning how to do long division. There is the Dividend, Divisor, Quotient and Remainder. Long division is useful for dividing large numbers by numbers with 2 digits or more. First you divide the dividend by the divisor, then multiply the Divisor by the Quotient. Subtract the product from the dividend.
Writing – 1st Person My Goldilocks
Hello everybody, this wee me and my class read a story called My Goldilocks. It is a 3rd person story and we had to turn it into a 1st person story. The first paragraph we did together as a class ad the second paragraph we picked a buddy to work with. Here is Our story:
My Goldilocks
I was out walking looking for berries for my pancakes. When I stumbled across
an old rustic cottage, with the door swinging open. I knocked, rat a tat tat. No one
replied. I got worried, “Who would leave the door open and not be home?
I thought to myself. I quickly entered the cottage to check everyone was okay. I know CPR.
I started to feel tired so I went down the hall to find the living room with 3 chairs in the room. I sat on the first chair and it was too hard,it felt like I was sitting on a rock. I walked to the second chair, it was way too soft. I saw a third chair, so I tried sitting on it but it broke! I got up from the broken pieces from the chair.
When the sun rose up, I started to feel tired. I walked into the bedroom and saw three beds. I tried the first bed, it was uncomfortable and hard. The second bed was a little bit more comfortable but too soft! I saw a third bed so I got into it. The bed was just perfect so I took a nap.
Suddenly I heard footsteps come up the stairs! I started to panic. There were three bears that looked at me, I got scared so I ran out the house as fast as possible.
This task was fun because I enjoyed creating a perspective of a character in a story. At the beginning the task was a little bit confusing but then I started to understand what I needed to do.
Rewriting a Tale
Hello everybody, this week in class we are trying to change a story from 3rd person to 1st person.
We had to:
- Pick a fairy tale we know so we can rewrite it in a character’s point of view.
- Brainstorm the fairy tale from a character’s point of view.
- Add words to describe my chosen character’s feelings.
- Add the pronouns I need to use for 1st person perspective I, me, my
- Check if we have the main events from the story.
- Write first paragraph from my chosen character’s point of view.
One Morning, me and my siblings woke up. When I looked around we were in the forest. We don’t see our parents around anywhere. We waited and waited but our parents didn’t come back. We were sure that our parents have abandoned us.
Maths – Power Of Square
Hello everybody this is the first week of term 4, this week we have been learning how to solve multiplication problems and square roots. We used squares to show numbers by coloring. We have been checking our understanding of times tables. Did you know that 6×4 can be drawn in a box of 6 squares by 4 squares? Square root is the opposite or reverse of a square number. Odd numbers always have a 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. These numbers are odd because they cannot be split in half equally, if they were to be split it will have a decimal number in it.
